Bangalore, 25th September 2019: METRO Cash & Carry, India’s largest modern wholesaler and food specialist is back with its third edition of Own Business Day 2019, a special day celebrated on second Tuesday of October every year. This year the initiative is getting bigger and better with participation of self-employed professionals along with HoReCa (Hotels, Restaurants & Caterers) apart from traders, Kiranas and other independent businesses. The registrations have already been opened for all independent businesses to participate. The initiative, that resonates with METRO’s commitment of being ‘Champion for Independent Business’, is part of METRO’s global campaign to celebrate & contribute to the growth of independent businesses and foster their visibility to build a strong network.
For Own Business Day, METRO Cash & Carry will be supporting business owners with an array of special offers and branding opportunities to drive footfall and augment their revenues during the upcoming festive season. In line with its digitalization intervention, METRO will be providing businesses with its ‘METRO digital hub’ to connect and create exclusive offers such as a special meal, discounted product, event and services exclusively for its customers. The HoReCa businesses can create special offers by selecting various categories such as Restaurant, Quick Meal, Bars & Drinks, Cafe Confectionary & Bakery, Trend Food, Travel & Hospitality, Stores & Shops, Services, Events, Culture for their customers. The digital hub will help the businesses identify their customers at relevant locations and all special offers shall be displayed on the site’s map to be availed by their end users.
METRO with the support from its supplier partners will pass on discounts and benefits to all its independent business customers to create ‘specials’ for their end customers. Businesses can either register on https://www.own-business-day.com or visit the nearest METRO wholesale store to create their ‘specials’. Registration for Own Business Day is free of cost and is available for METRO’s existing and potential customers. The entire initiative of ‘specials’ will help the independent businesses to drive more sales, garner more customers, sustain loyalty and help build potential business.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Arvind Mediratta, MD & CEO, METRO Cash & Carry India said, “We believe that efforts of independent businesses need to be acknowledged and celebrated as they fuel a culture of entrepreneurship in the country, and are a significant contributor to our economic growth. With Own Business Day, we not only try to bring more business to our customers’ doorsteps, but also help enhance their visibility, especially during the festive season, by providing them with various special offers to stay relevant in the competitive retail landscape. Last year’s Own Business Day received overwhelming response especially from the trader community wherein we created close to 150,000 specials. This year we aim to double our efforts on the ‘special’ offers that will go live on METRO’s global Own Business Day portal on 8th October. We would also like to thank all our supplier partners for supporting us in this journey to champion the cause of independent businesses and leveraging visibility and footfalls for them.”
To raise awareness about the value that own businesses add to daily lives and to create new opportunities for them, METRO Cash & Carry had launched Own Business Day (OBD) in 2016. OBD is celebrated across 26 countries on the second Tuesday of each October as a tribute to business owners in all the countries in which METRO operates. OBD initiative offers its customers various tools and services to increase their visibility and to help them attract their customers through special promotions on the website, METRO’s YouTube channel, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The objective is to enhance the own businesses’ visibility, particularly online, towards the public so that more customers will be attracted to their doorsteps.
