METRO Cash and Carry India Offers Hudhud victims relief

October 18, 2014, Hyderabad: The country’s most trusted wholesaler has stepped up as a responsible corporate citizen to offer assistance to those affected by the Hudhud off the coast of Andhra Pradesh. METRO Cash & Carry India has put together a consolidated care package of food supplies and essential items to ease some of the troubles faced by the people of Vishakhapatnam in the wake of the fury of cyclone Hudhud.

These relief measures have been organised as part of METRO Cash & Carry India’s Community Support Programme, under the aegis of the company’s Care & Share CSR & Sustainability initiative. METRO’s care package includes essential supplies such as bottled water, packaged dry foods, milk powder, tea bags, sugar, salt, first aid kits, basic toiletries, clotjing, essential utensils and footwear. These were dispatched from METRO’s Vijayawada outlet to the Municipal Commissioner of Vijayawada, from where they will be handed over to authorities in Vishakhapatnam.

Speaking of METRO’s engagement with the local community, Mr. Rajeev Bakshi, Managing Director METRO Cash & Carry India said, “METRO’s presence in Andhra Pradesh over the past decade has been marked with trust, respect and care for the community in which we operate. We believe it is our fundamental duty as a concerned corporate citizen to give succor to the people of Vishakhapatnam, whose lives have been ravaged by the forces of nature.”

This relief package is only the first step towards the establishment of a long-term rehabilitation programme which would include METRO’s adoption of coastal villages affected by Hudhud, and proactive involvement of teams from METRO’s Hyderabad and Vijayawada wholesale outlets.
