METRO Honours Culinary Skills at the 10th Annual Chef Awards 2013

New Delhi, November 23: METRO Cash & Carry India, the International Leader in Self-Service Business-to-Business Wholesale recognized the culinary skills of over 700 chefs from across Food & Beverage industry of North India and honoured their contributions to the industry at ‘THE INTERNATIONAL CHEFS DAY’, conducted in association with Indian Culinary Forum and supported by IFCA and WACS, at The Ashok Hotel, New Delhi.

The occasion was graced by Hon’ble Minister of State for Human Resource Development Mr. Shashi Tharoor. The awards were given out across 17 categories to recognize and appreciate contributions made towards the industry across the year, where the Hon’ble Minister along with Mr. Rajeev Bakshi, Managing Director, METRO Cash & Carry Indiaconferred Chef Satish Arora with the ‘METRO Lifetime achievement Award’.

The Top 600 chefs from North India participated in the event, with a competition being held amongst participants from the top hotels, restaurants, bakeries, confectioneries and catering businesses of the country. The competition, held at the Banarsidas Chandiwala Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology last month, was centred around the theme “Modern Indian Cuisine”.

Mr. Rajeev Bakshi, Managing Director, METRO Cash and Carry India congratulated all the winners and thanked all the participants and guests for their contribution and efforts to make this event a grand success. Speaking about the awards, Mr. Bakshi said, “Chefs are the backbone of the hospitality sector, and we are extremely proud to be here to honour their culinary skills and contributions to the industry. Accolades in Master Craftsmen Category were conferred in numerous categories like Chef of the year, International Cuisine, Indian Cuisine, Master Baker and Student Chef of the year. The jury for this category included some of the renowned names across the hospitality fraternity comprising industry professional, food critics and connoisseurs like Chef Rajeev Chowdhary, Chef Theodor, Chef Kaushal Arora, Chef Saju Zacharia, Chef Michael and many more. All the winners received a cash prize alongwith a certificate, while other participants received certificates of participation.

Earlier in the week, METRO organized a Chefs’ Day Out at the METRO wholesale distribution centre in Shahdara, Delhi, where a panel discussion amongst the top 40 chefs was conducted. Chefs exchanged their views on the importance supply chain efficiency and witnessed the vast product assortment along with customized services offered to HoReCa customers at METRO DC in New Delhi
