Jalandhar, 21 December 2011: METRO Cash & Carry, the global leader in self-service business-to-business wholesale, today announced plans to launch of its second wholesale distribution centre in Punjab, at Jalandhar. With this, METRO re-affirms its deep commitment to Punjab’s progress. The Jalandhar centre will be a one-stop-shop to meet all the needs of business customers in Punjab.
Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Rajeev Bakshi, Managing Director, METRO Cash & Carry India,
said, “Our Jalandhar wholesale centre opens its doors to customers tomorrow. Our unique business-to-business wholesale concept will bring the benefits of a wide assortment of quality products at wholesale prices to business customers in and around Jalandhar.”
“A key focus on METRO is to build a strong customer connect. We have already conducted a Trader Support and partnership program for small and mid-sized traders as well as Chef-o-logy for HoReCa customers. We are sure that such programs will bring significant benefits to our customers”, he added.
The Jalandhar centre will be the company’s ninth in India and second in the state of Punjab after the recently opened Ludhiana centre. The Jalandhar outlet spread over 60,000 sq feet is a one-stop-shop to meet all the needs of business customers, offering a wide assortment of over 10,000 (food and non-food) products at best wholesale prices.
METRO has already created 300 jobs in the state with its first distribution centre in Ludhiana. The second centre in Jalandhar will add another 300 jobs (150 direct and 150 indirect) locally. METRO has a keen focus on training its employees and most of the Jalandhar team is currently undergoing on-the-job training at various METRO Centres across India.
Supporting local businesses is a key focus at METRO. METRO Trader Support and Partnership program,
a customer connect initiative was organised for local traders in Jalandhar in December 2011. TS&P helps traders by training them on various aspects that impact their day-to-day business, including - planning and redesigning their assortment, managing stocks efficiently, becoming more customer-friendly to help them remain competitive in the ever-changing economic environment. METRO Chef-o-logy, was also organised recently for the hospitality sector. Chef-o-logy is a knowledge sharing platform where for chefs from small hotels and restaurants can interact with food experts and renowned chefs on menu merchandising, international cuisine creation etc.
